I obsessed about space heaters for a couple months, researched online, went to the specialty hardware store three times, and finally decided on this one. I have not been disappointed. With a home office, during the winter I didn't want to heat the whole house to keep warm in the office area. This heater has worked beautifully. It heats up quickly and is very quiet. For the summer months, I use a Vornado circulating fan. I'm very happy with both products from Vornado.

I loved the way the Vortex Digital Heater heated and the way it kept cool to the touch. But within a week, the one I had started cutting off when it hit the set temperature and did not come back on. I was worried that it was overheating all the time and called Vortex who told me I could send it in at my expense and pay $15 to fix it. I emailed my Amazon seller (Louise at Pinnacle Packaging) who was wonderful and paid to have it sent back to her, and is going to refund my money. I think I am going to buy another one only I am going to purchase it from a local store and make sure I can bring it back if the new one does the same thing. I guess I am a sucker but I really liked the way the thing worked when it worked correctly!

The heater is great. If it had a timer it would be even greater. However, it serves the intended purpose well. The "cool to the touch" feature is perfect since I have a toddler. I never leave it unattended but it's nice to know that if the baby somehow gets close to it there won't be a diaster.

I use this heater in my office and it is super quiet and keeps the room at a perfect temp all the time. I plan on buying another for home.

Alas, the heater didn't heat very well at all, not even when it was a few feet away, much less warming the whole room, and one week after I started using it, the power switch broke (it has a push button power switch, that when depressed, slipped off to the side and never emerged again).

Perhaps this machine was simply defective; my advice would be to buy one, if you must, where you can easily return it if necessary. Luckily, I bought from an excellent third party vendor on Amazon (Uncle Joe's) who provided outstanding customer service.

Purchased two of this heater from Polsteins via Amazon 10/20/05.

They heat extremely well a room that is 17x20 with 20 ft ceilings toasty warm in less than 1hr!!!
BUT after 1 month 1 unit goes completely KAPUT!!
like it shorted out or something.
2nd unit, works like its brand new.

Perhaps I just got a lemon, we'll see if Polsteins exchanges it for me or refunds the purchase price. My first e-mail to them they told me to call Vornado, called Vornado they told me to call Polsteins..........

I have an excellent Vornado fan that I've happily used for several years, so I was expecting this heater to be of similar quality, efficiency, and durability. Additionally, I read good reviews of this heater both on Amazon and elsewhere, so my expectations were high.
