The only drawback is the price. I would love it if it costs around $20.

I bought this model from Amazon 3 years ago. It is still working just as well as it did right from the box. Small in size, this thing can blow you away on high speed. It has excellent adjustability, speed control, and best of all....it's built to last.

I am truly impressed by this company's products.

I bought the 510 (mainly for my dorm room)after I returned the 610, thinking that the 100W difference wouldnt matter much.

Let me tell you, the change was VERY noticeable. The highest power setting felt like medium on the 610 and it doesnt circulate air to well with medium or big sized rooms. The fan is still great but not worth it for the price in my opinion.

I returned the 510 back the next day and got the 610 again. If you are looking for a fan for a big room, pay a little extra and get the 610. Well worth it. Stronger and circulates air much better.

However, if you are looking for a small fan for a small room, you would be better off looking else where.

The fan works like it says it does. I leave it on all the time. I would like it to have more power but it is advertised as an air circulator, not a breeze creator.

This tabletop fan is a telling reason why Vornado has been around for a long time. Great air output, high quality, well-built, very quiet on low speed, adjustable so you can tilt it at any angle you want, and just small enough to fit on your desk, table, or in our case, the bathroom counter. My wife uses this fan to cool off in the bathroom while getting ready in the morning, and it really does the job. It has a very focused air flow so she can aim it on herself without bothering me. It's very smooth running, so there's no danger of it vibrating off the counter. It costs a bit more than the typical portable fan, but then there's nothing more frustrating than having a fan that won't cool you off. No worries with this one! The extra money is well spent here. This fan lives up to the saying, "You get what you pay for"!

This fan is way better than you could ever imagine. It's better than other fans twice the size. By just looking at the picture, you might think it totally inefficient. However, this Vornado Compact Air Circulator solved the problem of moving the cool air from a single air conditioner through an entire apartment. It's a wonder! Use it alone, or use it to improve the cooling effect of an air conditioning unit -- either way, it is a tremondous bargain.

We originally bought the product for our toddler's room and then ended up buying a second Vornado for our master bedroom. This is an excellent buy for several reasons. First, it is sleek and stylish, especially given its neutral color. Second, it provides a great wind speed given its small size. Third, it provides a constant soothing wind sound, which is great for drowning out any annoying pheripheral noises. Lastly, I have not seen the product in a retail store any cheaper than on Amazon.com. We have had the product over 8 months with nightly use with no sign of defficiency in performance.

This is an amazing fan. Very quiet. I run this fan 24 hours a day to move the heat from a wood stove around the house.

Love this fan...the off-white color is nice, too. I have mine in the bathroom and it keeps the shower dry after use. I use it with the blower and the door open & it keeps the tub & shower mildew-free. Circulates air and dries the area fast. Super-quiet on the lowest setting.

Guess those hot flashes are a bear. Anyway, I figure she works at dinner over the stove, she deserves a REAL fan. This one cranks the breeze. Plus it is quiet, so she can talk on the phone, can listen to her movie, or participate in dinner conversation.

Don't know how they engineered the airflow to go in such a tight tunnel, but it does. That means she can aim it at her from across the room and no one else gets chilled. I guess it is designed to create a breeze throughout a room, but hey, use the tool in the way that helps you most. She has used this one for 2 years, and if it ever dies, I am confident another Vornado will replace it. In the meantime, I think I'd be favorite son if it wasn't for my brothers giving her grandkids. How to compete with those grandkids, you just can't!

There are certainly cheaper fans to be had at your local Wally World, but the Vornado's unique design and technology justify it's price. This fan makes the least amount of noise for the air it pushes. On low speed, it's virtually dead silent. The construction is solid. You get the impression it'll be around for years. The grillwork is safe and removes for easy cleaning. And it looks good too. What else could you ask?

My roomate had a serious issue with the fan I used to have because it was a bit too loud. I need a fan blowing on me when I sleep so I was in a bit of a predicament. I purchased this fan to remedy the situation.

The slowest speed of the fan is nearly silent but is a big step down in airflow from the next speed up. All in all, though, it is a very nice fan that did the job I needed it for.

I bought my first Vornado 510W a few years back. Boy, was I impressed. Now, when I needed another fan I didn't have to think twice. This small wonder circulates the air in a large room easily. Great for a bedroom as it is quiet but it can be directed easily to reach every corner, even on low. And it takes up no space at all...

This fan is great. It really cools off the room and circulates the air a lot better than most of the larger fans out there. I was surprised that such a little fan could do so much. It is very quiet too, another reason we love it.

I have four Vornado fans in my home. As far as I am concerned, they are the best fans made. The fans are very quiet. Our home is air conditioned but I use the fans to help circulate the cool air. You will never be warm again if you buy a Vornado!!

...and that's my main beef. I bought a 510 model at Bed Bath & Beyond a few weeks ago because I was in the market for a new fan and had read so much positive feedback about Vornado fans over the years. The 510 is their smallest model, and on its lowest setting it's quite inconspicuous, but it also doesn't move much air on that setting either. Point it right at you and you'll definitely feel it though. I have a poster sized map of the world temporarily taped to the wall in my den (small 10x11 room). With the fan on the opposite wall set on low and pointed at the map, it barely even moves. A cheap old box fan I tried had the bottom of the map flapping against the wall. On its highest setting the little guy does move some air with the high rpms and deep pitched blades, but it's also FAR from whisper quiet. I can't imagine anyone sleeping with the fan on high, or having company over and trying to have a conversation with it whizzing away in the background. Bottom line, I returned it and got my money back. For value, I have to give it 2 stars.

I'm not an engineer, but I do have an engineering background, and I believe that if you want to move a lot of air quietly, you need a fan with a large diameter blade. I recently broke my 10 year old oscillating stand fan. There was nothing spectacular about it, but it did have a pretty large blade on it, and on its low setting it moved a decent amount of air quietly. I'm off to find another.

I got this fan along with the Holmes HASF-99 10 Inch Velocity Blizzard Fan, and wish I had gotten two of the Holmes fans instead. The Holmes was $10 cheaper and had free shipping, and is way more powerful than this little Vornado.

Vornado fans are great fans, and last far longer than most others. I know this, because I have a second-hand 12 inch one.
But regardless of how great they are, I have come to the conclusion they simply aren't that great during days where the temps and humidity are in the 90s. The temps and humidity have to be lower for a Vornado to really impress you.

This little Vornado is not impressive at all right now, although it is doing a decent job of cooling down a closet for my ferrets. I'm sure when the temps get into the 60s-70s, it'll be more impressive. But if you're in the 90s, with high humidity, go with the Holmes Blizzard, or a big high velocity Patton floor fan.

Recently my mother moved into a senior citizens retirement community. A beautiful place but the one thing was that it did not have air conditioning in the individual apartments. it only had air in the general areas such as the dining rooms, lobby, beauty salon, library, etc...Well It's Michigan and mom didn't want an A/C put in for a couple of months. She's in a well shaded area so it doesn't get overly hot. We picked up this fan and never have been so impressed with a fan. This little wonder is extremely powerful and circulates the air better than any fan I've ever seen...or felt. Set it on the ground, point it diagonally up at the ceiling, and it literally bounces off the wall and sends air throughout the aparment. It has a dial on the base to easily set the speed of the fan or turn it off. Simply a marvelous product! Highly recommended.

Okay. It's only a fan, but it's the nicest I have ever used. The low setting is more than enough to circulate air in a bedroom and it's totally silent. The design is compact, sturdy and attractive. I am delighted with it and will purchase Vornado fans from now on. If you want something to take the edge off hot summer days and don't wish to resort to a full A/C unit, but a Vornado. You will be very pleased!

I purchased this Vornado fan for my office cubicle. There is absolutely no sound involved with the fan and I'm able to sit there with my headset on and carry on a conversation and stay cool at the same time! This is definitely worth the value and have never regretted purchasing this fan. I'm very pleased and happy I made the decision to buy this.

I live in an area where it isn't particularly safe to leave windows open at night. The one window in the bedroom that is probably okay to leave open a little doesn't create any cross-draft, so it is very uncomfortable for sleeping in the summer. I tried several different fans, but none of them helped much because they were too loud or they blew so hard that the wind dried out my nasal passages and my throat.

Then came this little Vornado "air circulator." I set it in front of the window opening and it sucks fresh air into the room and bounces it around so delicately that there is no wind impact. The air just gently moves about, creating a cooling, natural ventilation that prevents sweating and doesn't dry out nose or throat. And it does this almost completely silently. You have to turn it up to maximum to hear it and even then it is not nearly so loud as most fans at low speed. Since I have been using this wonderful Vornado, I have slept better than I have in months and awaken without the icky, achy feeling that is usually left over from having a fan going all night.

This product gets my highest, unequivocal recommendation.

I have 4 vornado fans, some for close to 10 years. They are the greatest air circulators out there and worth every penny. The motor just won't quit! Some of them I run year round to provide better air circulation and they continue to work like a charm. There are many imitators out there but I don't think they can compete with the workmanship of the vornado.

This little "air circulator" is to fans what the Bose Wave Radio is to stereo systems: you simply can't believe the amount of output coming from such a compact source. It seems to transcend physical reality. As a drummer in a doo wop band, I have used one of these "Tiny Tornados" onstage for a number of years now, and nothing else comes close when it comes to blowing a strong, quiet stream of air to keep me cool. Other musicians interested in using the fan for this purpose will be pleased to hear that the little Vornado has NEVER given off any hum or unwanted electrical noises that showed up in a sound system, despite the constant suspicions of band members and sound technicians alike. I don't know what to make of the one other customer who was disappointed by this fan, unless he accidentally bought an inferior copycat version -- there are some around -- made by another company. Simply the best little fan in the world!

I bought this fan because I wanted something to run during the night at low speed that would not make the noise my hardy old box fan does. And it is perfect for that purpose, creating just the right breeze that will keep you cool, without disturbing. So I agree with everything else that has been written about this.I will just say that there is one thing this little guy cannot do, which is draw in cool air from outside when you place it at the window. Nothing beats your $10 box fan in that.WIth one of each, you're just about covered...

I will never forget the summer of 1986, wife pregnant and the central air zonked out. I ran to the nearest large store to grab a fan and actually i was going to grab any fan. I was walking down the fan isle when i noticed 3 to 4 people grouped in front of this small looking yet powerful fan. They were laughing and feeling good. It obviously made everyone cooler. I noted the blades were quite different allowing them to circulate air at a awsome speed. The output shocked and amazed me. I got lucky and grabbed the last one and headed home. Please dont take my word for it just go see a demo. Mine is still working great to this day.My son Peter enjoys it as much as we do! This fan is a winner in all ways. Thanks for listening to Bill

bought one of the little vorando's last year . . . bought a honeywell or some other name brand at target ... brought it home, made a huge racket... took it back, got on the web and found a voranado . . . for more money . . . but it's silent and great and sleek looking . . it's the mercedes of fans. got it through amazon, used, and it's great. make sure to get the one with the variable speed (not just the choice of three speeds, etc.) but you can vary the speed from top to slow, etc. I believe only the small ones come with this feature, so it pays to investigate, if that feature is important. I ended up calling the factory to determine which fan model had this feature, since the ads on the web are somewhat ambivalent on this - they will often say variable but really there are only three choices of speed.

Ok, now I made my purchase largely on the opinions of the reviews I read about this product. Yes it is compact, and it looks cool. When you run it on the lowest setting, it hardly makes a sound. However you will be terribly dissapointed if you expect a powerful fan. You can consider this a desk fan. Even at its highest setting it couldn't make paper fly off my desk. It has about the same power as one of those cheap hand fans that use double A batteries. The person saying that you can feel this fan at 25 ft is a gross exageration. I would say that its a good fan, but maybe i'm just very dissapointed cause I expected more after reading the reviews from everyone else who bought this fan. Bottom line is that this fan is not as powerful as the customer reviews claim.

This fan is great, it is adjustable and super quiet. I have a Honeywell fan in one bedroom to drown out noise, this fan would not be for noise reduction, but for air circulation ..particularly in hot climates like SoCal.There are three speeds, and the color is neutral, I like the fact that you can adjust the base to point up or down, it does not rotate, which is fine, the air definitely gets around even on low. I love it, super price too, and to boot Made in USA.Excellent quality product.

I bought my Vornado 510W several years ago... and to this day, it still saves me faithfully, albeit a little bit dusty from sitting in the outdoor storage area during the winter. But once again, summer is creeping in and I brought out the little savior again to keep the air and temperature in my abode equalized. It is extremely powerful for its size (I can feel the breeze from across the hallway!), and I highly recommend it for bedrooms, college dorms, cramped offices, or sweatshops where you know you need air to breathe or you will simply gasp and diiiiie. This little fan will run circles around the traditional larger box fans, any day.

I whole-heartedly recommend this fan. It's generally quiet, yet powerful (although on its highest setting, which is really strong, it is as noisy as any other fan). It is also very compact, making it a very convenient package.

We bought two of these to help circulate the air in our small NYC apartment, and they work very very well. They are much quieter than a regular fan, and they keep the air moving, which helps the air conditioner cool off the room better (instead of hot and cold spots). I've left mine on for over a week at a time with no problems.

This is a very effective, quiet, attractive small fan. I'm extremely hot-natured, but my husband is not, and we have a running battle over the thermostat. In our family room, I have this fan pointed at me from a good 10-12 feet away, yet on low speed it keeps the air moving enough that I'm comfortable without the AC turned down to 32 degrees, and my husband isn't chilled by a draft. Great solution for us!

After reading the reviews of this model and the other Vornados I decided to plunk down the money for the small model since it seemed like it would be adequate for a small studio apartment.Reading the reviews you'd think this was some kind of small miracle machine. My experience after close to two weeks hasn't been close to miraculous. Even in a small studio apt. I haven't found that it cools down the whole front room, though I do notice a slight temperature change from one side to the other (it's less than ten steps across the whole room). Granted it's a result I would never get with my run of the mill oscillating Duracraft fan, but short of my expectations. On the low setting, I hardly notice it's even on. The medium is fairly quiet too. These would probably be ideal sleeping settings. On high (the setting I most frequently have used) it's about the same as a regular fan on high speed, maybe a smidge louder. I've located the fan near the wall AC and I do notice the air circulating a bit better and likewise when the window and curtains are open, but again I haven't found it be any sort of miracle worker that significantly cools the room down. Certainly not when the temps outside are in the upper 90's as they were here recently. Maybe I need to continue to play with the positioning of it, though I've tried to follow the suggestions in the pamphlet. If it's the little miracle the other reviews made it out to be, then there shouldn't be much "experimentation" needed for a relatively small, square room. Maybe my apartment is just unusually hot.At this point, I couldn't imagine using this in the middle of the extremely hot Sacramento summer as an alternative to AC during the peak heat of the day. Even turning it on in the morning during not-so-hot days I have still found the room to get stuffy and warm by the afternoon and needing to turn the AC onfor at least a little while to cool the room down to a more comfortable level. I'm not sure it's even worth the extra cost of electricity to have the fan on at the same as the AC.Bottom line, I'm still not completely sold on this fan and whether the purchase price was worth it. It could find it's way back to Amazon.Com for a refund since I already own a standard oscillating fan which was probably about fifteen bucks cheaper. Either way, I don't think this product is something I'd necessarily recommend purchasing over a regular fan.

I bought this product, not really knowing what would make it any different from any other fan we have had. Well, I found out! It is a wonderful air circulator, to help keep the air in a room fresh and refreshingly cool. It is calibrated so that one can set it to pretty much run all the time as an air circulator(really helpful to me, as an asthmatic and allergy sufferer) and can also be set at various speeds to produce major cooling as a top quality fan would do. I have been totally impressed with this product and would highly recommend it to anyone. It makes all the difference in a room to have fresh air circulating.

Bottom line, I live in Southern California in a thirdfloor walkup studio apartment with no airconditioner and since all the windows face the same direction -- no cross breeze. During the summer my cats and I bake in here. But last summer I picked up this same make of Vornado. I cringed at the price tag but a friend assured me that it was worth it. She was right. It puts out as much airmovement as either one of my two large box fans (you know about 2 ft square and you either stand it in the window or have it on the floor). When I saw the price on this fan through Amazon I couldn't buy it fast enough. Oh, and it's so much quieter than other fans. I go deaf in the summer with a room full of fans to keep it cool, but these things are quiet. They really are worth the price. I'm told the larger ones are even better. If you live anywhere where you think you might need a fan, this is really worth the price. It's a deal.

You cannot find a more powerfull fan in such a small package. It has stepless speed control. At the highest speed it blasts as much air as a massive box fan on high except it does it in a higher velocity compact stream of air. It is amazing how this stream stays together over a long distance without much divergance. This meant I could use it to channel air directly into my bedroom 25 feet and two rooms away from my single window unit airconditioner. It is somewhat noisy at its highest speed because of that massive volume of air being moved. At its lowest speed it gives a nice breeze and is very quiet.

This is a great fan for small apartments. It's small and compact. You aim the fan upwards and it moves the air around without blowing everything away. What is most important to me is that it is fairly quiet which is great for warm summer nights when you want to sleep without hearing roaring in your sleep.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but the other reviews on this item made it sound like this fan was some miraculous new advance in electric fan technology. I bought it, and I'm satisfied with my purchase, but so far it hasn't radically changed my life and I'm not in any hurry to tell all my friends to go out and buy 10 of them. It's a fan. You turn it on, it blows air. It doesn't seem to blow air any further than any other fan I've had. It works fine in my average-sized bedroom. It is pretty quiet and is small, two features I like. I think I'd like it a little more if it had the ability to oscillate back and forth.

I can't say enough good things about this fan.Four years ago, I was living in an apartment that had one window air conditioner in the living room which wasn't running all that well, and I couldn't convince the landlord to recharge the freon. So I was looking at big, powerful fans at Target to move cooler air into my bedroom when someone walked up and highly recommended this small fan - the 510W (just 12" high). Told me it would shoot air up a stairwell from downstairs to upstairs. The 510W is so quiet that on the lowest setting, I sometimes can't tell by listening if it's running - I have to hold my hand in front of it. Yet I often don't point it directly at me (six feet away) when I'm sleeping because it effectively moves the air around the room even if you're not directly in front of it.It cost more, but I can tell you it moves more air than all those cheapies I had combined. I soon got rid of a couple other fans because they were worthless by comparison. And I've checked out recent look-alikes at Home Depot, Target, etc., and they don't even compare. Vornado fans are built really sturdy and stable, and I'm convinced they'll be good for years and years. (new ones have a lifetime warranty)This thing doesn't put out gale-force winds to be effective on low settings. Somehow it creates a focused "beam" of air so that you still feel a faint breeze on the other side of the room even on low. On higher settings, it then air moves back around the sides of the room so it makes a difference even when the fan's not pointed directly at you. I was so happy with the small 510W that I later bought one of Vornado's mid-size fans on a stand (model 615?) and an air cleaner AQS35. This summer I picked up a couple of the reconditioned 610B fans from Amazon (perfect size to put in windows), to bring in cooler air from outside (esp. at night). The 615 (a stand model) is in the dining room of my apartment, and I sometimes aim it over the open "bar" between the kitchen and dining room when cooking gets the kitchen too hot (10 feet away). Instant results. Or I aim it into the bathroom with the door open (again, 10 feet away) after the mirror is steamed up, and it clears up in no time. And I'm convinced it's saved it's worth in air conditioning bills. (It's aimed at me from 10 feet away on the lowest setting as I write this, and it feels like a nice, gentle breeze). I usually only need the more powerful settings if it's *really* hot, or I'm trying to move lots of air in/out a window or from one room to another. When people see (feel!) these fans, they decide they're worth the price. Friends and family bought three of the large 750B (reconditioned), two of the medium 610B, and three of the small 510W or 550G. My parents got the Vornado Intellitemp heater, and recently bought a second one for their unheated bathroom downstairs. All three fans can move air a good distance. The difference is how wide the "swath" of air they send out, and how much air they move (to move air-conditioned air down a hall or through a window to bring in cooler outside air). The 750B feels as strong at 10 feet on lowest setting as the 510 does on medium or high (and will be quieter to get the same effect - they all make noise on higher settings). The 750B is a leap above the 500 and 600 fans in power - the main disadvantage of the 750B is it's a little wide for a hallway or doorway, and is a little large to sit in a window unless you could make some kind of platform for it.Reconditioned Vornado fans I've seen have all worked like the new ones - a few of them are a little louder than new (will have a slight buzz at certain angles).Wichita Kansas is big in the aircraft industry, and I'm convinced an aircraft engineer designed this fan. Vornado products are industrial strength, and are simply amazing.

I've had this fan for about 4 years, and it's been running for about 3 of those years continuously and I still haven't had any problems with it. For a little fan it circulates the air around your room with incredible ease. In fact, you get so used to having one around, that you're not comfortable without it. I love this fan so much that I've purchased other fans for other rooms! I would highly recommend this specific fan!
