The dehumifier is perfect for areas like living rooms and bedrooms, since it is quiet and pulls enough water out of the air to make it useful. However, I do not recommend it for basement use as it is just too small and slow for that purpose. Better to get a larger, more powerful unit for the basement.

I wish I ncould leave feed back on this item. Item was shipped but did not work. When I returned it and requested a replacement I was issued a refund instead. Found a simular modle at HD for less money that works perfectly.

This dehumidifier works fairly well. It is noticably less damp in the apartment, and I haven't had the need for allergy medicine (like I normally do this time of year). However, my electricity bill nearly doubled--be prepared.

I was pleased with the easy set up (just plug it in), 'quiet' mode really is quiet, and it lowered the humidity in my space from 75% to 55% within a couple of hours. It is easy to empty the water tank, looks good, and is portable. THe directions warn that the casters could scratch floors when it is wheeled around, but it has not scratched my hardwood floors. I really like this product.

I received this dehumidifier on time and in great condition. It works better than expected and is very quiet even when using the continuous operation mode. The only knock on it I would have is that the continuous drain setup is poorly designed but other than that it's a great product for the money.

I am tired of these kind of companies that try to put defective product withtout QC. This humidifier did not collect any water from days of running. The 1 star is just for good look.

Great dehumidifier at a great price. Worked straight out of the box. We live on the 'wet side' of Oahu and have been getting more rain than usual. Humidity was so high, we had mold growing on the bottom of shoes on the floor and the entire 12x12 room felt damp. No more. This baby pulls about 1.5 gallons of water a day from the air. We already have a window a/c unit that puts out a good bit of noise and I didn't want a loud dehumidifier. This model is sooooo quiet, you can't even tell its on. Simply amazing.

Lots of pluses and very few negatives:
Very lightweight and small footprint on floor.
Doesn't require a lot of space around it as some other do.
Easy to use (just plug it in!)

It only has four settings for dehumidifying and doesn't tell you the humidity level of the room, but that wasn't important to me...I want to keep the room dry and keep it on 'continuous dehumidify' all day long. Also, it vents warm air into the room, raising temp 1-2 degrees F but with the drier air we barely notice.

I was especially pleased with the shipment time. I received the dehumifier 3 days after ordering.
The dehumifier successfully removed the high moisture level problem I was having. I was also very pleased with it's electric consumption. I had expected a much increased electric bill since I used it constantly for 3 days, but that was not the case.

I don't have a lot of experience with different dehumidifiers like other reviewers apparently do, so I can't compare it to other dehumidifiers. All I can say is that it works, the price is right, it's easy to use, and emptying that bucket is somehow very satisfying.

If you've never had a dehumidifier and live in a house that feels damp, I can tell you that, besides helping with mold and mildew problems and keeping all your salt from sticking together, you can actually feel the difference. It's great.

Ok, I own not one but two of these marvels. The first one has been running non-stop in our storage room since I bought it about 8 months ago, delivering excellent results. All the humidity issues we were having are gone for good. I just purchased the second one for our master closet which is in the bathroom -we got a mild case of mold- and so far it has been also very good

Pros: Competitive price, portable, silent operation, effective control of humidity, easy to clean, very easy to operate

Cons: A little bit high on power consumption (my electric built went up about 5-10% since I've been using it), not that easy to carry around using the built in wheels

I ordered this in mid-January and had the same problem as recent people. I ordered it cause I thought it would work and was quiet. I thought it was nice (very quiet) but after a week of running, I noticed it never got 1 drop of water out of the air. I had it set to run until it hit the right humidity. So if it was running constantly for a week, it should have put some water in the bucket (otherwise it should have shut off).

I went back on Amazon and saw the recent reviews about it not working and the horrible customer service from the company so I requested a refund from Amazon and sent it back to them. Hopefully I'll get all my money back. Seems like the Soleus company dumped some bad ones off on Amazon (with some that worked) and hoped people would not deal with their return policy that forces the customer to pay for shipping it back to them in California.

I bought this dehumidifier in Oct 2005 after reading all the nice reviews. However, when I got mine, it didn't work. Not a single drop of water. If the humidity level was truely below the setting, the unit is designed to turn off. But it kept running for two days until I switched it off. Did troubleshooting with the manufacturer without any success. Amazon sent me a replacement but it had the same problem.

When I came back to Amazon I saw few other buyers had exact same problem in Nov & Dec 2005. Wondering if there was one defective batch. After this experience, I don't have the confidence to recommend this product to anyone.

I was extremely impressed by all the great reviews that this dehumidifier received which prompted me to make my own purchase.

The first unit I received would not collect any water, not even a drop. I noticed that another consumer who wrote a review had a similar problem. Since the 1-800 number for customer service for Soleus would not return my call, I had to contact Amazon.com for a replacement. I might note that Amazon.com reacted extremely quickly to my concern and I had my replacement Dehumidifier the following day after I contacted them.

Unfortunately, the 2nd unit produced similar problems. The only way the unit would collect any water was if it was operating in the "continuous" mode. When one of the humidity levels was selected for the operating mode, once again, not even a drop of water would be collected and despite the user manual clearly indicating that when the humidity level was reached the unit would automatically turn off, it never did.....it would run constantly (which is a waste of electricity) and it wasn't even collecting any moisture from the air.

Well, I attempted to contact the Soleus 1-800 number again to only reach a voice mail service AGAIN. I called this number at various times of the days and I never reached a person, only their answering machine. Naturally, I left my return telephone again as well as a good time of when to return my call M-F. Several weeks elapsed and I received no return telephone call. I then e-mailed the company and a few days later I finally received a return call from one of their customer service representative.

This company originally attempted to suggest that the dehumidifier was operating normally. Since I was certain that it was not, I asked to speak to his supervisor and I outlined once again what the problem was. This supervisor provided me with instructions to perform a "test" and asked that I call them back the next day to advise if the unit was collecting water. The unit did not collect any water during the test therefore I called the company back. I should mention that rather than providing a 1-800 number to call them back, they provided a toll number for California hence I was forced to pay for the call several times.

The company acknowledged at that point that "yes" the product was defective. They also offered to send me a replacement however I was instructed that I would have to absorb the cost of the shipping. I informed the customer service rep. that I was not paying for the shipping for this defective product and I asked if they would provide a return mailing label for postage. He claimed he was unable to authorize payment for the shipping and I told him I would like him to confer with his supervisor and call me back. Three days elapsed before I received a call and the Supervisor also advised me that they would not pay for the shipping to return the product. I patiently explained to him that I was willing to try a replacement product again, despite the fact that it would be the 3rd unit, but only if they absorbed the cost of the postage. I wasn't about to pay $25-$30 in postage when I already paid over $125 for a defective product. I also told this supervisor that if they would not pay for the postage, I was going to contact Amazon.com and request a refund, not a replacement hence they were going to loss my business. The supervisor would still not provide return postage.

Long and short of this message, the customer service for this company is beyond terrible. You are unable to contact them at your convenience because the 1-800 number never reached a person but instead an connects you to an answering machine. In addition, this company is extremely slow in contacting you back, it's possible that you won't receive a return call until you contact them through their e-mail address. Lastly, don't be surprised if they attempt to tell you that the unit is operating properly when you know that it is not. To top off this story, the supervisor at Soleus had the audacity to suggest that he could provide his e-mail address for me to contact him in the event I had any problems in returning the unit AGAIN through Amazon.com. Naturally, I declined his offer. I have a lot more confidence in Amazon.com in taking the proper corrective action in this case than I do in Soleus to intervene on my behalf if I did run into any problems.

I'm happy to report that Amazon.com did the right thing again and they are sending me a mailing label to return this defective unit. I am not getting a replacement again nor will I ever buy anything in the near future from the Soleus Company. If you don't want to experience any major headaches, I would steer clear of this company.

Very simple to operate. Works quickly--it pulled a couple of pints of water out of a moist room within a few hours. At first I thought the hydrometer did not work, since the unit seemed to stay on when the setting was at 70% even though I knew that the room humidity was less than that--but then I noticed other reviewers saying that the fan was always on. So switching it from 70% to one of the other settings I heard it kick in--barely. It runs quietly, and the fan being on continuously provides white noise--which is nice, because if the fan was not on, the machine turning on in the middle of the night might wake me. One more tip: flip up the vent on the top to the reduce noise level.

The machine removes plenty of moisture from the air. While on the quiet setting, it should be quiet enough for any entertainment room! However, the machine is anything but portable.

I have had the same problem as the last several reviewers - after about three months, my Soleus stopped working. The fan runs, but the unit doesn't collect water. Otherwise, this was a great gadget - quiet, effecient, attractively designed for what it is, and, until recently, reliable. I have emailed customer service and will update if I get a response.

This item came DOA! It ran 24+ hours and didn't remove one DROP of moisture. Customer 800 number suppurt gave the oportunity to only leave a message. After 3 days of messages, and NO return call I returned the item to AMAZON for a full refund.
