The Sharper Image Ionic Breeze® Quadra Silent Air Purifier offers an array of innovative features that have made it one of the most popular products for Sharper Image®. Completely silent as it operates, this air purifier traps airborne particles (dust, pollen, pet dander and tobacco smoke) with superior efficiency. There are no filters to replace, simply wipe the stainless steel collection grid with a damp cloth. Energy efficient, the Ionic Breeze uses only 15 watts of power. 28" high. Available in gray. Its silent! There isnt any other air cleaner like it on the market. Others claim to be quiet but there simply are no other air purifiers that move air in total silence. Ours uses patented Zenion Effect™ technology to circulate air electronically — without a noisy fan. No filters to replace! Youll never buy or change a filter again. Theres no other quality air purifier that traps airborne particulates on easily cleaned stainless steel collection rods. You save the hassle, the mess and lots of money by not having to buy replacement filters. Run 24 hours a day! Because its silent, and because its powered by so little energy, youre free to run the Quadra 24 hours a day, every day! Other air cleaners have fan motors that use up to 250 watts. But Ionic Breeze is electronic and uses less than 15 watts...like a night-light! And because other air cleaners are so noisy, people tend to turn them off — allowing airborne irritants to build back up in no time. Wit

I bought 2 of these for my apartment and 2 of these for my parents since my grandmother, mother and boyfriend are all pretty severe asthmatics. Initially the Ionic Breeze's helped reduce the dust and cat dander in the air and I could tell that everyone was breathing better.

Unfortunately, after a few months everyone began having breathing problems and asthma attacks again only they were much more frequent. I was horrified to find out about the ozone emissions and we unplugged the Ionic Breeze's right away. My boyfriend noticed his breathing getting better within hours after we stopped using this device.

I would definitely not suggest this for anyone with severe asthma.

I've found that it does everything claimed: captures lots of dust & stuff (which you see every time you clean it), is QUIET, and runs on very little electricity. I've owned HEPAs before, they were so noisy I never ran them at their high settings - so they never did much.

With this on my allergic wife doesn't react to letting the cat in the house.

Very happy with this. I'd prefer to give it four-and-a-half stars - the newer model is better!

This air purifier emits "ozone". Ozone is an inherently unstable molecule. Its chemical formula is O3, making it quickly degenerate to O2 and an extra "O"....that extra "O" that is formed is a free radical my friends. Free radicals are not something to kid around with...they are what "antioxidants" are meant to clean up. Yes, there is an ozone layer which protects us from UV rays, but guess what, NOONE IS BREATHING IT! The main place you will find breathable ozone is where? Oh Yeah, in AIR POLLUTION!!!! So why why why would you willingly pay this much money to put free radicals and ozone into your air??

One reviewer said that ozone is ok because it can be used to "clean many surfaces". I'm not sure about you, but I do NOT want things that can clean surfaces (bleach, borax, etc.) in my LUNGS. Just because it cleans surfaces does not mean you want to breath it all day...in fact just the opposite.

I bought the Quadra with an ozone guard, thinking the guard would solve the ozone problem and leave me with a quiet, low-energy-use filter for use in the bedroom. Though the Quadra is quiet, the ozone guard covers only slightly more than half of the entire face. I woke in the morning to the characteristic ozone smell, and my eyes were irritated and my sinuses achy. Whether it's because of ozone or because the filter isn't pulling out the pollen and dust, I don't know. I do know that I'm very disappointed in the product, especially given the price.

I absolutely love my Ionic Breeze. I could not be more pleased with it. It does make some crackily noises, but it's worth it. It collects a ton of stuff from the air, but is very simple to clean. I took it out of my bedroom for two weeks and was unable to sleep due to my allergies. If the crackling bothers you, shut it off when you're in the room, and leave it on the rest of the time. It really does what it is intended to do. It's truly worth the money.

I live with a smoker, so I bought two for my apartment. It does work well and helps a lot, but it was constantly making "static" and crackling noises despite my frequent cleanings. I even bought compressed air to help blow the dust out, but they still end up driving us nuts so we just shut them off. What's the point of spending all that money if we just leave them off because they annoy us? I would rather have one that makes a little white noise than these which drive us crazy. Plus, they don't move the air good enough to keep up with a smoker. I'm very disappointed.

I did not buy my Ionic Breeze from Amazon but I did buy it directly from Sharper Image. I have had it for three months now. I really wish I had taken advantage of the two month return for a full refund privilege but I decided to give it a serious chance. It does collect SOME dust in a 12 x 8 foot room but that is about it. I have some pretty severe allergies and hoped that by placing it near my desk (at which I spend a lot of time) would help relieve some of the symptoms. It has done nothing. If you do a google search for "ionic breeze sharper image review" you will find information concerning a lawsuit that Sharper Image filed against Consumer Reports for finding the Ionic Breeze to be useless. The court dismissed the lawsuit by Sharper Image (see the review for details) I wasted a lot of money on this one. Don't buy it!

Well, I currently have a basement apartment, where the air circulation is minimum, and the windows are closed at all times, yet there is always dust and a very peculiar smell. I ended up buying the "Ionic Breeze Quadra", I said, "Lets give it a try, it can't be that bad". To begi with, they shipped it out 30 days after I placed the purchase, and didn't bother to contact me for the update, even after paying the rush shipping, (nice way to do business.)

Anyway, eventually it arrived and I was excited to test it. As soon as I plugged it in, there was that "bleach like smell" that everyone spoke about, but I still had to give it a break. I actually stayed with it for three more weeks, hoping it would get better. It was an experience I don't recommend. Everyday as I walked in the apartment, I would expect a difference, at least some fresh air, or a more clean air than the peculiar smell on my apartment but the Ionic Breeze is really not the way to go when you want to gasp fresh and clean air, It makes it all worse. It was the most disappointing experience. Don't get me wrong, it does collect some type of dust, but for some reason, when I whipped it off, it was "black", like if the dust was burned or something. That bleached like smell was all over my apartment, and clothes started to smell like it also, I couldn't take it any longer, so I just shipped it right back. Important, if you do buy this product, keep the box and all documents, you will end up returning it. It is really not worth the money. I didn't care I had to pay to return it, but I was definitely not keeping it. I hope this review helps out others before purchasing this product. I wish I had listened to what the other reviews said.

In an article comparing air filtration appliances, "Consumer Reports" gave the Ionic Breeze a low rating, noting that it made almost no difference in the air quality in their test chamber. While the basic cleaning concept is fine, the lack of a fan makes the unit ineffective.

I have not purchased this unit, so I can't speak for the durability or other issues, but we owned a business for 12 years that did fire and flood restoration work, we used ozone extensively for deodorizing, and I can testify that not only does ozone work great for reducing air impurities, it works great to sanitize most surfaces. Breathing problems can develop, but only if you are confined in a room with extremely high levels for two or more days. The condition you can get is called pulmonary edema - basically blisters inside of the lungs. These types of air filters just do not put out the levels needed to create this condition. We currently have another type of air filter at home which uses ozone and it's fantastic at eliminating the smoke odor from our wood-burning stove.

The TLV-TWA established by the EPA (Threshold limit value-time weighted average) for exposure 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week is 0.1 parts-per-million. Smog measured in most cities has reached concentrations of 0.14 ppm up to 0.29 ppm. Ozone dissipates quickly, and is heavier than air, so high concentrations at head height are difficult to maintain. Ozone is generated by lightening and is partly responsible for the fresh smell after a thundershower. Ozone gas has never been responsible for an accidental fatality in more than 80 years of industrial use. Precursors of irreparable ozone toxicity are coughing, sneezing, severe eye irritation, and nose bleeding, so sufficient advance warning is given well before pulmonary edema is suffered. Get your facts right before you start accusing people of making dangerous products. If you can smell the ozone it is up too high for an occupied space, but it will still work great and all you have to do is shut off the unit and air out the space if you want to occupy it. Remember, the coffee is hot so don't put it in your lap.

I have owned 4 full-size Ionic Breeze air purifiers, and I must say that they are of low quality.

The first two were of the first generation of Ionic Breeze. Each unit completely died in under 2 years. I called Sharper Image about the problems, and due to the expiration of the warranty period, settled for two new Ionic Breeze Quadra units at a reduced cost. One of the Quadra's has since stopped working, although its indicator lights show it to be operating. The second unit seems to work, however I am operating it only occasionally, as I fear it may also break down.

It should also be noted that I received two of the compact "bathroom" versions of the Ionic Breeze with my original order. Each of those units ceased to function after a period of only two or three months.

Based on my experience, I would recommend that anyone looking for an air purifier, that is built to last, look elsewhere.

I know some people don't like that "ozone smell", but being a 3rd year medical student, i have to discredit some of these other people's reviews on NO being poisonous and also developing idiopathic lung disease from this...that is just ludicris! I've had mine for 2 years now, and I only got them because I moved into an apartment with dust problems, and I had severe allergies until I got mine, and I can tell you every week I usually clean off the filter and it is just filled with dust, empiracle evidence of the decent effectiveness of this machine. It won't cure any medical conditions, but it does what it's suppose to do, make breathing a little better. If you're expecting it to cure your asthma or allergies, you'd be disapointed, but if you're expecting a decent product that improves the quality of air around your room then you will be happy. Don't believe some of these other reviewers that slam the product with one sentence outrageous claims!

These do not work as proven by consumer reports. Only a hepa filter can clean your air in your home.

I have nothing but praise for Ionic Breeze. I have very bad allergies and the Ionic Breeze has made such a huge difference in the quality of air in our home. You really notice how well it works during pollen season, and the cold/flu season. It is easy to clean... and when you see all that you've been breathing that is now stuck on the rods you'll be amazed. Everyone in my family ended up buying one or more of the Ionic Breezes after they saw how well mine worked. I have no complaints.

I did not like this product because of the harmful ozone it emits into the air that created a bleach like smell, and after a few hours i did encounter some breathing problems and lung pain which is characteristic of ozone use.

I would recommend an air purifier without ozone. Some good ones rated on consumer reports were the Fredrich, Whirlpool, Bionaire and Hunter. I hope this helps.

Here is the scoop: There are serious questions about the safety of this appliance, because of Ozone or nitric oxide output. The sharp smell around the quadra is NOx - a toxic gas, but the odorless gas ozone is poisonous and dangerous. Ozone is generated whenever there is high voltage - such as in the Quadra. Sharper claims that the ozone levels are safe, but there are no numbers or tests done specifically on the quadra to absolve it. Ozone is a toxic gas that attacks the lining of the lung, and any presence of ozone is a fact to be taken very seriously.
OK - On to the the anecdotal experience. I used the quadra on low in my bedroom. I experienced breathing problems and went to the emergency room. Their diagnosis was an idiopathic dark area on lungs. Cat scans said it was not cancer.
An elderly friend suddenly developed serious lung fibrosis after putting the quadra in her room. The doc said the fibrosis was recent, and was unsure what caused it.

Just got one of this last week. Don't know if it works for purify the air, because it is totally DOA. Making a terrible noise and keeping saying it's dirty and need to clean. Only thing I can notice is a terrible smell make by this machine. Call for RMA # and they said it need ONE WEEK to send. And I will need another FOUR WEEKS after they receive this JUNK and send me a replacement. This is ridicious!!! They took your money and hold your stuff for one and half month!!! Totally unacceptable. Never try to by anything from tham again. BEWARE!!!
