  • Warm steam humidifier reduces static electricity and prevents drying in indoor environments; manufactured by Honeywell
  • Heats water with a stainless-steel heater; easy to fill, clean, and carry water tank; digital controls and LCD display
  • Outputs 4 gallons of moist steam per tank; best employed in rooms up to 1400 square feet in size
  • Medicine cup provided for dispensing vapors; clean regularly to prevent mold and germs from festering

  • Honeywell HWM-450 Quick Steam Warm Moisture HumidifierFor arid climates or the dry cold days of winter, running a steam humidifier indoors often protects the inhabitants' skin from chapping or itching, allows stressed lungs to breathe with comfort, and infuses moisture into the room to the benefit wooden furniture, upholstery, and houseplants to prevent them from becoming brittle or parched. Honeywell created their Quick Steam Warm Moisture Humidifier for all of these purposes and more, enhancing a room's humidity in record speed.

Best suited for rooms up to 1400 square feet in size, the humidifier's heater is crafted in stainless steel for quick heat production and trouble-free cleaning. The compact humidifier outputs 4 gallons of warm steam for each full tank of water. This humidifier offers users a timer function for running the unit for preset periods, ranging from an hour to the maximum 18-hour setting. Digital controls and the easy-to-read LCD screen enable users to alter or monitor current preference settings. A medicine cup allows users to run the humidifier as a vaporizer for stuffed noses, sore throats and other respiratory illnesses. An automatic shutdown feature reduces safety hazards. Humidifier water should be changed frequently and the tank washed well each week to prevent bacteria, mold, and other impurities from developing, though the heating process should kill many of these unhealthy particles. As with any electrical home device, read all manufacturer guidelines and instructions prior to use. This humidifier measures 15.55 by 14.57 by 10.24 inches and weighs 6 pounds upon shipping. --Jessica Reuling

The humidifier seems to work fine and did not have any spillage or odour. It has a humidity level control and a indicator but the user control is confusing.

The controls should be simple considering its a simple humidifier.

I could live with the controls as I got used to it but could not get used to the enormous electricity bill! You definitely need to think twice before buying this product.

Yes, the place from where steam comes out, has started melting/shrinking!!! Otherwise works ok. Please email me if you have any questions, will be happy to answer. I havent sent it for replaement yet since it takes too long to get replacement.

I purchased this Humidifier in early February 06. So far it has done exactly what it is supposed to do, with no maintenance problems at all (just keep filling the reservoir). I use it just in the winter, so I'll have to wait a see how it performs after some months in storage. For now I am very pleased.

Bought this machine at Zabar's in NYC. It quit working 23 days after I bought it - 3 days after Zabar said they wouldn't take it back (20 day return policy). I called Honeywell's Customer Service who told me I had to pay to return it plus I had to wait 4-6 weeks for a replacement. In addition the product was out of stock which could make it take even longer. I've never experienced such poor Customer dis-Service.

Every product will have its experience; some good and some bad. Mine unfortunately was not a good one.

I wish there were negative stars. This is quite possibly the worst piece of equipment I have ever had the misfortue to buy.

After three days of moderate use I began to discover a puddle on the floor. Yes this 'humidifier' leaks. Actually to be more specific it overflows. Why? Because apparently giant hampsters must have designed the thing. A quick summary: The large blue and very fragile reservoir tank empties into the extremely shallow and sloping trough by means of a spring (I kid you not) button at the bottom of the tank. Once inserted into the main body a protruding plastic part pushes into the button depressing the spring and pushing a rubber stopper up; allowing water to enter into the trough-over the heating mantle and into a glorified fan/nose cone that releases the steam. The genius that thought this mechanism regulates water flow should have his college degree revoked.
The result is a carefully orchestrated disaster. Water flows too quickly for it to evaporate, the trough fills and excess water is dumbed out of the sloping back and grated front. Result: warm moist water everywhere but where it should be. To give people an idea of how shallow the trough is-I'd say about a pint (0.9 fl oz.). Fill the 3 gallon tank and you can expect to have a swimming pool, not a humid room.

Had the unit for a couple months. It had trouble maintaining desired humidity of a small bedroom with the door closed. Overall, a decent unit but not spectacular. Needed cleaning every couple days, but my water is definitely hard -- so it was to be expected.

However, after a couple months, I was filling the reservoir and the handle broke off. The reservoir instantly shattered after an 8 inch fall to the side of the bathtub. The handle it turns out uses very poor glue. I had two hands on the reservoir, and was rotating it back to upright position after screwing the cap back on. I would estimate probably maximum 10 pounds of pressure.

I would not recommend this unit even if the reservoir hadn't broken. The parts/pads are a pain to get, support is non-existent, humidifier performance/features is nothing to get horny about, and the Kaz company might as well not exist. Honeywell is a name only.

Akin to other reviewers, I performed extensive research on humidifers before concluding on the HWM450. A Consumer's Report 'Best Buy' + strong feedback ratings on multiple price comparison sites led me to what appeared to be an 'obvious' purchase on Amazon.

Egads. As the old adage goes, you get what you pay for.

To be fair, I love the multiple output settings, humidity on/off feature, not to mention the handy, hourly shutoff option. Moreover, a big water tank allows for 1.5 nights of full use without a refill. Finally, the HWM450 is also extremely quiet, and does quite well with Vicks Humidifer Vapor Fluid poured into its medicine cup.

The downsides...equally as obvious. The digusting yellowish-orange, mineral deposits + algae buildup after only 3-4 days of use are both eyesores and difficult to clean. The humidifier's 'mineral reservoir' [actually] promotes this buildup by storing this gunk until emptied. Worse of all, the gunk burns on and into the heating plate rather quickly in an almost cement-like fashion. (Why the HWM450 doesn't burn off such deposits as part of the humidification process is beyond me. Lower tier, Honeywell humidifers operate under this premise.) Related, the mineral deposit pads become equally tainted rather quickly.

The good news is, the HWM450 is easy to clean...if you know how. Trial and error produced the knowledge -- alluded elsewhere in reviews -- that the cleaning pads can simply be rinsed clean with cold water (don't waste your money on new pads). Second, the mineral reservoir can easily be rinsed clean, likewise the humidifier's removable components. The mineral plate is a little feistier. Not feisty enough, however, for a 1/8th inch layer of CLR left on it for a good 30 minutes. Breaks everything down for an easy clean/rinse off.

My first HWM450 began to emit a strong burning odor after its first cleaning cycle. I returned it to Kaz (Honeywell's parent company) -- excellent customer service -- who replaced it at no cost (minus my shipping to send it there). The second unit has a buggy hygrometer, echoed by others here who have it stuck on 20 percent.

Moral of the story? If you can get past its shortcomings, a decent short-term humidification solution. I remain on the lookout, however, for a pricier, more reliable unit.

I bought 2 of these, after a bit of comparative analysis. I have been very pleased. They are quiet and very effective, plus easy to refill. Note: I use distilled water to eliminate cleaning problems.

It's a nice product, I really liked it...if only it could have continued working! Some inexplicable malfunction...I turned it off one morning and it would never turn on again. I tried everything I could think of. I am going to assume this is a glitch and ask for a replacement, not a refund. I'll let you know how it goes.

While this is a good looking product I had to return it twice because of faulty parts. I would look elsewhere. Seems a shame for such a good brand.

I bought two of these after my son and daughter-in-law bought one. Our house is very dry in the winter and we keep one in the bedroom and one in the living room. They work well and do what they are supposed to do. You do need to clean them regularly and carefully. It takes effort to clean the heating plate--we have hard water and do not use filtered water in ours. We have not had to buy replacement filters yet and are wondering if that will be a hassle.

I bought both the 330 and the 450. The 330 stopped working after 3 weeks. Called KAZ support. They said there was nothing they could do. Send the power unit in. I asked if they could send me a new unit, charge me for it, and then credit my account when I sent the malfunctioning/non-working unit in. Their response, "No, that is not in our policy. We cannot allow that." The 450 model stopped working after 6 weeks. Both purchases were a waste of money and KAZ support was less than helpful.

Excellent product. Suggest those that buy and use this product that you place the vaporizer at the lowest point in the room you intend to use it, otherwise you will not achieve maximum benefit. I had no problem in securing the sponge minerial pads from Kaz, nor did I have any problem acheiving the desired humidity level I chose. The only problem with this unit is removing the minerial deposits from the heating plate. Cleaning must be done weekly and scraping is the only sure method of removing the deposits left on the heating plate.

It has been extremely dry in my area of Texas this year, causing discomfort while trying to sleep. This humidifier has been very reliable when it comes to adding moisture to my bedroom air. I have used it many nights over the last few weeks without any problems. My Municipal Utility District has very hard water so the heating plate does accumulate buildup after a few uses. However, I just squirt it with some vinegar from a spray-bottle, and the buildup dissolves within 15 minutes or so.

so far it's ok but like many others have said it has a few flaws. the pads are expensive and you need to order the mineral pads over the phone since they are hard to find in stores. every machine is different but seeing some reviews mine acts the same as others for instance, the humidity level o nthe machine goes up and down and can be inaccurate so you will need to buy your own just to keep track and they are not very expensive at all, it cost me $11.94 for 12 mineral pads because i had to order them from costumer service. to save life on the mineral pads though for people with hard water you need to get a water treatment for humidifier tanks so it can save the life of the pads longer. if you overfill the tank it can leak at the bottom of the machine i figured this out and since i stopped doing it it hasn't leaked at the bottom. it can be noisey but withmy husband's fan going i can't hear it so thats good. it hasn't stopped working yet but i do notice that you need to make sure that it is all connected properly as well because it will not infact not work until it is all connected and on tight. i had one incident where a mineral pad was burnt but that could have been my fault because it only happened once and thats basically when i first got it but eer sicne it's never done that so make sure you got it in correctly. make sure to clean it every week or whenever the green light comes on and make sure everything is on right and is in order otherwise it won't work and do not use any metal or any cleaning products except vinigar and bleach on the product like it says. and do not use bleach on theheating plate but only use vinigar because thats what costumer service told me. best way to get all the scales off the heating plate is soak it in vinigar and then use a soft cloth or a non metal brush like i was told and it does wonders.

the only flaws though is, noisy at times, cleaning it all the time and the mineral pads are expensive for only 11.94 because you pay over 4 dollars for shipping and handling so it all adds up, then you got the thermastat that can be incorrect so you need to buy one and they are cheap at walmart. oh and for hard water uesers you need water treatment but make sure to read the label to see if it can be used for this kind of humidifier your best bet is going with kaz water treatment. other then that it's not such a bad product if you use it wisly and take care of it properly. i think it's way better then the cool mist humidifiers which they never did anything for me.last but not last don't have it to close to windows or walls. and don't over fill it or it will leak.

as far as kaz though i think they do take people for granted when it comes to money because paying for shipping and then having to give a 10 dolalr check is what i call wrong and taking advantage of people so it is actually the company you need to be aware of before their products because they to me love ripping people off.

I like this humidifier because the controls allow you to easily set the humidity level to just where you want it. The tank is easier to fill and carry than past ones that I've had. And cleaning this one, although still a chore, is actually not too bad, and I especially like that it just calls for bleach and vinegar to clean it, which are normal household products I have on hand. On the downside, the product description didn't list this model as having a filter that you need to replace every couple months -- the filter is a mineral filtration pad that lays on top of the heating element, I still need to find where I can buy replacements. And I had hoped the larger capacity tank would mean filling it less often, but I find I'm filling it about 2-3 times per day. The last model I had was a cool mist one and it made a mess all around it. This one makes no mess and is easy to operate and clean.

I've only had this a little while, but so far so good. I use it overnight in our bedroom and it puts a good amount of moisture into the air, even on low.

The unit cleans easy...I get a lot of scale, but it cleans easily with CLR. Pads clean up well too and I think that I can get a lot more life out of them than advertised.

I bought this humidifier and was very happy with the design, large openings to clean and heating element was easily cleaned as well. However, true to the other reviews here, it stopped working after 2 weeks. We had followed the instructions re regular cleaning and filter replacement (they are high maintenance).
I then bought a Holmes and I am so disappointed in the design, so hard to clean and take care of.

Why is it so difficult to get an easy design that won't stop working???

After a couple weeks this thing started boiling and gurgling constantly. It's really loud. Also the replacement pads are expensive, impossible to find, and need to be replaced often. To top this off, the product isn't even listed on the manufacturers website so there is zero support.

    Defineatly avoid this one.

After much of reading and looking around, I finally decided to get this product. Its a good product, works as advertised. Its being nearly two months since I got it and it works perfectly fine till now. The humidity control is reliable. The reading that it shows is pretty consistent with one of the indoor hygrometer that I have.

I personally don't find it any louder than the other warm-mist humidifier that I have owned. I have it pretty close to our bed and my wife is a very light sleeper, but the sound does not disturb her at all.

As they claim, the humidifier does start giving out steam within 3-5 seconds. One fill of the water tank, normally lasts us through the night.

Cleaning is very easy. The best thing is because it has one of those stainless steel plate, the mineral accumulation is very less. If you use the absorbent pads that comes with this product then the accumulation is still less.

It does not need any replacement filter, etc so there is no additional cost of ownership.

I gave it a 4-star rating since there are couple of things that I don't like. Its difficult to hold the water tank and fill water in it. There is no handle at its base, as other humidifier has, and so it is sort of difficult to fill water, while still managing to hold it steady. The other drawback is that due to its design the bottom of the water tank is kind of slanting. So the cover for the water tank also goes in a slanting manner. Due to this slanting manner, its kind of difficult to get the cover to a good tight fit. So everytime you invert the water tank, after filling it up, there is some amount of water drip.

Purchased this model after reading many reviews and reports, as most have stated it is a little loud, for me the only problem has been the humidistat, sometimes it goes out, it will switch from 35% to 20% in about one minute and back again usually when on low output, and is not accurate.. it reads aprox 5% lower than actual room humidity.. so we adjust our settings accordingly. I have read many honeywell models quit working if you let them run dry even though it has a safety shut off if it goes dry, so we never let it go dry. On low setting we refill the tank 1-2 times a day. So far we have been running it about a month non-stop and it has been working fine. The output is great will raise the humidity in the room we have it in, which is about 14X14 from 32% to 45% in aprox. 30 minutes on high. cleaning is fairly easy, but as with all warm humidifiers the heating element gets mineral gunk on it that is tough to remove. We were a little concerned about durability/quality but it seems most other brands have the same issues.

One use, and then it never worked again. Called customer service and they told me to return it. Don't buy this!
