  • Powerful Blizzard Motor / Converts from stand to floor fan / Convertible Height / Adjustable Tilt Fan Head / 3 Speed Oscillation Settings / Color: BlackHot time, summer in the city--there's nothing like a powerful fan to keep you cool and collected despite the heat. The Blizzard oscillating fan from Holmes features three speed settings and a hard-working Blizzaire motor to ensure you have the temperature control to keep your wits about you. And if you can’t decide whether you need a standing or tabletop fan, this fan’s flexibility makes it the perfect solution. With three height settings (16, 26, and 40 inches), you’re sure to keep cool no matter where you need a cooling blast. The fan head features a swirling grill design that is fully adjustable so you have complete control over the tilt angle, and it can oscillate from any position. The fan’s wide base includes a weighted removable insert for stability when using the taller height settings, although you should always use caution with any standing fan around toddlers or enthusiastic tail-wagging dogs. Crafted from durable slate-gray poly, the fan has a three-year limited warranty. --Ariel Meadow Stallings

I bought two of these fans from Amazon. They can really push some air. No doubt about that. However, I feel the fan is too noisy. We have to turn the TV up quite a bit to be able to hear over the fan noise.

I also found that the fan pushes so much air that we don't have any need to use any speed but the lowest. If the fan had lower speeds then maybe it wouldn't be so noisy and still be quite effective.

The fan is ok to use in the bedroom as the noise doesn't bother to go to sleep. However, it is too loud for where you watch TV or have conversations.

I am going to try and contact the manufacturer to see if there is a way to slow down the fan.

This is a great fan esp for the money. I use mine outside on my screened porch. Has several speeds, and it doesn't take up a lot of room. I love it!

I purchased two of these fans from Amazon about 2 months ago. Seemed like a great fan for the money, not cheap, but not as expensive as a Vornado, good air circulation, not too noisy. Now, two months later BOTH fans are not running right. They start out fine for about 5 minutes, then konk out for no reason. They continue this way, turning themselves on and off until I get aggravated and shut them down. I could understand it if I had one bum fan, but for both to have problems is completely unacceptable. The only reason this review even gets 1 star is that there isn't an option for zero stars! Save yourself the headache and buy a Vornado.

I bought this fan for the flow of the fan... but granite it is noisey because I turn it up.. but that is the reason I bought it. I live in a very loud, people and cars goes by and you can hear it neighborhood, so during the night I turn it up and I get the air I need and the noise is almost not there. During the day I turn it on low and it is not loud at all. Each person has their level of noise control and with this one by turning it up a notch is just what I need to sleep..It also puts out a lot of air at the same time for such a small fan....

I purchased my first one of these about 5 years ago and it just recently broke. BUT I used this fan every single day! Even during the winter. And some may ask whay I did this. I need some kind of background noise (white or ambient) in order to get a great sleep. This fan was incredible for this. Plus in the hot summer months it made it feel as if it cooled off the entire room. Being that I used this fan for LITERALLY 365 days a year and the motor takes about 15 mins to get the blades going now, it is not a bad thing at all. If you are in the same room and watching TV or on the phone you might have probs with this fans' noise level but that it what the volume adjustment on those devices are all about. But also heed this warning: if it gets knocked over by accident the top "pole" is useless and strap down anything in this things downwind path because it WILL get knocked over! Overall I LOVE it and that is why I am purchasing another.

This fan is too loud,if you intend to use it in your bedroom it would be impossible to sleep or watch TV with this fan on.I would not encourage any one to buy this fan.

Fan physics: Compact + Powerful = Loud

There's no way around that, so if you really must have a fan that takes up little space but performs like the huge bulky ones, this is the fan for you.

I can't sleep with it on, but during the day it's a great alternative to having the AC on. It can move some serious air.

I do not use AC in the summer, even though I live in a place where the temps and humidity are constantly in the 90s. I have lots of windows, however. But they open outward and cannot take window fans. Thus, I need floor and stand fans to stay alive in the summer. I have gone through more than I can count over the years. This year, I decided to get this one and the small Vornado 510--which costs $10 more than this Holmes, and also had shipping charges, unlike this one which was shipped free. (NOTE: When I bought this fan and did the review, it was offered by Amazon for $29 with free shipping.)

This Holmes beats the Vornado hands down. This Holmes beats a whole lot of other larger fans I've had hands down. I am amazed how powerful it is. It's not as powerful as a big metal Patton floor fan I have, but it's one-fourth the size of that one! It's not quiet like a Vornado, but I actually like loud fans. I also expect the Vornado to "live longer", but as long as I get a couple of years use with this one, I'll be happy.

Even at the lowest setting this fan is stronger than any other stand up floor fan I have ever had.

Lucky I bought this fan in time for July becuase after when I bought this fan it was 96 degrees and the fan is strong even setting to 1. When it is set to 3 (highest) it is very LOUND sound motor but anyway it does not bother me and in fact at night I still use it. When I took the fan out of the box the stand was dirty it has dust in it. I was like Amazon.com says its NEW and it has dust in the stand? I though it was USED and the others parts were clean expcet for the stand. Anyway that does not matter to as long as it is useable.

This fan is powerful - it's loud, but not ridiculously so - and it's always good to find a standing fan tall enough to reach most windows that actually works.

My only complaint is that the connection between the top part and the bottom tube/base is flimsy, and so when manually turning the fan, the top easily comes off or the fan falls.

This is by far the most powerfull fan I've owned. If you are using it during the day it's fine, but if you need this for falling asleep, avoid it. Even the lowest setting sounds like a jet engine.

I've used this fan for 4 years in a college dorm, having it on 24/7 every year, except for summer break which was used about 12/7. Not a single motor problem or break in performance, in spite of the heavy amount of dust present in dorms. I must say, best quality fan I've ever heard of so good job holmes.

We got one of these a few months ago- it's wonderful! I had originally wanted a Vornado but those were a bit expensive so I decided to give this one a try. It's a very powerful, compact fan- wonderful for those of us with very limited space. It's a little noisy, but all high-speed fans are. Given how powerful it is, it's probably on the quiet side of the high-speed fan category. It's low speed is great for sleeping- in fact we rarely use the higher speeds, even during the day. In summary, we're very happy with this purchase, so happy that we just ordered a second for our son's room.
Edited to add: These fans aren't designed to be cleaned! That's really the only thing I don't like about them--> they are incredibly difficult to clean.

Well, we broke ours within the first month. It's too topheavy for the stem to be durable. If the stem were made out of a more durable material and thicker, the fan would have received a rating of 5 without hesitation. My fella has a hairdo that scares most women and children and it takes him hours to construct it. Lots of hairspray goes into the creation and he needs a powerful, adjustable fan to blow the fumes out of the bathroom (yes, this is what I live with every day!). This fan would certainly be a godsend, were it not for the somewhat flimsy stem. Beyond that, we don't find it too noisy, the 3 speeds are great, and the adjustable sizing is perfect for hiding behind our entertainment center (we live in a 600 sf apartment, and space is tight...this fan fits our space needs perfectly). If you can treat it with gentle respect when you move it around and don't have pets, children (or boyfriends), who are rough with products, I highly recommend it.

This fan is solid, well-made, versatile and really ventilates the room well, but as with all high velocity fans it is on the loud side, even on low. It has basically three heights: you can use it as a table fan, or you can insert either or both poles to make it medium height or full standing fan height. Be forewarned though that there is a little work in doing this, but it's not difficult.
