Bionaire BTF40RC Tower Fan with Remote Control

  • 5-year warranty against defects
  • Space-saving design: 40 inches high, 6-1/2 inches square
  • High-performance centrifugal blades; three speeds
  • Remote control; programmable timer up to 7-1/2 hours
  • On/off oscillation; "breeze" and "sleep" functions

  • Why take up valuable table space with a fan when you can tuck this tall, slender model just about anywhere? With the convenience of a timer and a remote you'll be able to bask in its cool breeze without having to move a muscle.Tall, slim, and shapely, this 55-watt fan uses little space but cools a room easily with high-performance centrifugal blades invisible inside the fan's gleaming, hard-plastic housing. Electronic controls, available either on the fan's control panel or the remote control, provide exceptional versatility. There are three speeds, an on/off button for the wide-range oscillation function, a timer, and two special modes (breeze, which varies speeds, and sleep, which gradually slows the fan down). The timer works in half-hour increments up to 7-1/2 hours. Combined with the breeze and sleep modes, the timer will work wonders. You can program the fan to gradually slow down over a four-hour period, for example. The fan stands 40 inches high and measures 6-1/2 inches square. It assembles easily with eight screws (included) and carries a five-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

This fan will cool the house very well. And it is very quiet. I found that the highest settings (there are 3 levels) can be a bit noisy but I have never needed them. We use them in the office and when we sleep at night. In both cases the cool quite breeze is very refreshing. There are a few other settings but I only seem to need the oscillate option. In short this is a good fan that surely wont disappoint you.

I bought this for 47.99 and it lasted one full summer and two months into the 2nd one before it died. I believe that it is over priced and not worth what I paid for it - I have replaced it with one from a discount store for 19.99 which has the same tower styling and also has a remote and is quieter - Save your money on this one

Ok, so I just moved from the West Coast to the East Coast almost two years ago and I didn't really understand what it meant when people said that it gets humid. Well, I call it getting sticky or muggy. Air conditioning is great, but it gives you that refrigerator feeling that it is cold for no reason- it feels unnatural and if you don't get a breeze from the air conditioner, after a while you start feeling too cold. Plus, an air conditioner uses a lot of electricity and is noisy.I have never seen a fan like this before and I do not know anyone who owns one, but just read the reviews and saw it on discount at Amazon. The price is comparable to those conventional round bladed fans, but what you get is so much more aesthetically pleasing. Now that I own one, I don't understand why people want an uglyier, larger round bladed fan in their home. The Bioniare Tower Fan is sophisticated- it has a remote control, multiple timer/sleep settings, oscillation, and a simulated breeze function. Also, it is quiet enough at the low setting, is powerful (almost too powerful for a small bedroom), and takes up a minimal amount of space. Even though it has been around for some time, it looks modern and somewhat euro. When I first got it and assembled it (8 screws), it made a subtle clicking sound on almost every rotation of the blades. It wasn't loud, but was a little annoying. I cured that noise by shaking the fan forward- I guess that recentered the blades (your fan may require another direction). Now, the fan is silent while gushing out a soothing flow of air. I highly recommend this fan. It is easily the most interesting, reasonably price, and useful item I have purchase online. How often can one say that?

This fan is perfect for the bedroom. It takes up very little space and it's very easy to move around because of the rear indented grip. The fan's lowest speed is so quiet that when I turn it on and off (and I do several times throughout the night), it never awakens my husband who is a light sleeper. But of course the best feature is that it is remote controlled and the button on the remote to turn it on and off is set apart from the rest of the buttons so it's easy to find in the dark. The oscillating feature makes it feel like a summer breeze. Can't say enough good stuff about this....it beats every other fan that I own.

Put this fan in the corner of your room and you will have great air circulation. This fan is comparable to the one in Brookstone at $100. It oscillates, has a timer, and full function remote. Best of all it does the job without that large, conventional "propeller" fan blade creating all that noise!

I had purchased two of these fans, and dealt with the same drama as other customers. I bought them primarily because of their appearance, and the remote control features. After a month, both of them made a very annoying screeching noise that was the worse. One of the units had motor oil leaking out of the bottom of it. I was very disappoined because both of these fans cost way too much money for me to have to deal with such trouble. I just broke down and purchsed another fan that was cheaper, blew more air, and was just as quiet. Do not waste your money on this product. The only thing it is good for is looking pretty. Other than that, it is the horrible!!!!!

I purchased this fan about a year ago for my kitchen. The air circulation was very good, but the fan wobbled and had an annoying noise. The sound would get so bad, that I would just turn it off.Now it has totally stopped working!I liked the idea of the style, because it fit well in small places and also set up higher,so you could feel the breeze better then regular fans. You would think that the company would have more pride in their products,to improve on a good idea and not be happy with the poor quality. What makes for happy customers and increasing sales is a good product and fair dealings from the company.I will purchase a new fan,but will return to a more reliable company.I don't expect the Bionaire Company will be in the fan business much longer, unless improvements in product and service are made.

I bought this fan at Staples a couple of years ago and I like it very much. It was easy to assemble (and I usually summon someone else for help), it's quiet, and takes little space. I have two other fans like this in other rooms (Sharper Image's model which sells for more) and this one performs as well and I like the remote control arrangement better. I replaced ugly stand up oscilating fans with these and they make my place look a lot better. The best thing that I haven't seen anyone else mention is they look clean!! The big stand up fans I had before would always get dusty blades and I'd have to take them apart and clean them. This fan requires no such maintenance.I highly recommend it.

I purchase this fan in April of 2003. In July of 2003 it suddenly stopped working. There are other reviews of this nature for this product, so I would not trust this manufacturer if you are in the market for a fan. I, personally, will not buy another product from this manufacturer.

Like other reviewers, my fan conked out...after less than 3 months. Phooey. It's way too much trouble to box it up and send it back. So into the trash where it belongs.

I bought one of these in April, and put it into service in May. After less than 2 weeks use, it simply died. The remote worked, the little LED lights lit, but the fan didn't blow air. I returned it to the manufacturer (at my expense PLUS $10), and received a replacement about 3 weeks later. After just over 2 weeks use, the replacement died. I e-mailed the manufacturer, but received no response. Since I already have $70+ invested in the original fan plus shipping the first one plus $10, I'm thinking I may just chalk it up as a bad experience and cross Bionaire off my list of brands I would buy.

This fan is great...as long as it doesn't break down. I bought this fan for my dorm room, and since I was on the top bunk, I loved the fans remote control. The fan was also fairly quiet and powerful. However, after about 6 months of fairly heavy usage the fan started making distracting noises. It sounded like the fan blades were maybe unbalanced causing a noise that was too distracting to sleep through. I have not had it fixed yet, but luckily the warranty lasts for 5 years so the problem should be easily fixed. Other than that, its a great fan, although I wouldn't buy it for the breeze function either (it was more annoying than "natural").

I have never been more happy with a fan. I don't know why but I thought I would add my "two cents" here because several people have said they have had problems with this fan. #1) Noise level: This fan is the most quiet fan I have ever owned. #2) I have had this fan for almost FOUR YEARS and I have NEVER (and I mean NEVER) turned it off (even when cleaning it)-- except to move one time-- and it has worked perfectly. #3) My fan also developed a clicking sound after 3 1/2 years (and after surviving the move) and I just let it run for a few days (to see if it would settle down or get worse) and the (minor) clicking sound STOPPED-- and the fan is now as quiet as it has ever been. The clicking sound has never returned. Either I am extremely lucky or I am not as picky as some buyers... This is a GREAT FAN. Also, to put my comments in further perspective-- I bought a much cheaper "knock-off" fan at Wal-Mart that I use in my bedroom. I start that puppy up and it sounds as if a 757 is landing in my bedroom until I turn it off. (Thankfully, I am not a light sleeper.) As soon as the knock-off dies... I am going back to a Bionaire.

Unit is fairly easy to assemble and provides quick cooling with many useful settings. The first of the three speeds is relatively quiet and provides very good cooling power. The other two settings do give off a noticable sound, but in the form of "white noise" and won't likely keep you up at night. The timer is handy and the breeze function provides cooling at random speeds. This latter feature is more a novelty than really useful. Since only the lowest speed can be classified as quiet, setting the unit on "breeze" creates a constantly fluctuating noise level -- which is more distracting than setting the unit to one speed and quickly getting used to the steady sound. The remote is a nice extra and features simple, easy-to-use buttons.

I just received it today, and boy, do I love it. Perfect fan for when there's limited space. I love the fact that there's a remote control to it, and you could use the sleep timer (up to 7 and a half hours), put it on breeze, make it oscillate (hope I spelled it right), and stay still, change speeds (low-hi), and on and off. You don't have to keep getting up all the time. It was very easy to assemble, and is great for those hot days. Take care.

I bought two of these fans from a major electronics/appliance retailer. I liked the look and I liked the features of this model. For months I was very pleased with these fans. Then after six months of faultless operation they both died within two weeks of each other. It was like they had a "death chip" in their controller or something. After reading the reports of similar sudden fan extinction from other owners of this fan I can say that I will never trust this manufacturer with my hard earned cash again.

I have limited space available but needed a fan that would make a difference, not just a noise. The remote control tower fan is perfect. The Breeze feature was a pleasant surprise ... and sounds and feels very natural. I highly recommend this fan to anyone needing a good quality fan ... but particularly to those who are short on floor space. The remote control is also a plus.

I would give it 0 stars, but that was not a provided choice.Well, after reading these recent reviews it no longer comes as a surprise that my Bionaire fan also died. Not even 6 months old and I left my apt with the fan running on the lowest setting and upon my return I noticed it was unusually quiet, (as this fan made enough noise to hear it throughout my apt). I tried turning it off/on but there was no response, it just up & died on me. I see it is now selling at a lower price than I purchased mine for, and rightfully so, since the product has a very, very short lifespan. Unfortunately, when I purchased my first, (and last) Bionaire product, I did not have all of these reviews to consider, there were only the first 2 or 3, from others who had not had the fan long enough to know better. Additionally, like other's have noted I also found the warranty to be just more trouble than the fan was worth. So instead of putting more money & time into this poor quality product, (shipping, schlepping and fee), I just simply purchased a very similar fan (costing less) and it seems to be doing just fine. Now, had I taken the hastle of schlepping & shipping this hunk-o-junk fan back in accordance with it's ridiculous warranty, just what was I supposed to do about the heat in my apartment while they wake my dead Bionaire fan??? Does Bionaire even consider that the consumer has actually purchased their product for a distinct reason, (cooling, air-circulation etc..). Given that and the fan just died which now forces me to "deal" with the heat and/or lack of air circulation - but as if that's not enough of an inconvenience, Bionaire now expects me to take the time, effort & $$$ to pack, schlep & ship their dead fan all the while paying the addtional associated costs...Come on this is outrageous and a total rip-off. They are ripping us off and they know it. Buy this product at your own risk and if it dies, well, you're aware of the warranty and all this will be of no surprise.

I have purchased 4 and two immediately started making a clicking noise and I'm having to deal with the manufacturer -- not good. The two that work are fan(no pun intended)tastic. Judging from the other reviews, you might want to think twice about this brand.

I bought this fan for my husband as a Christmas gift this year - aside from the fact that appliances are usually boring gifts he loves it! We both do. Its quiet enough to not keep us awake at night, and the remote makes it even handier to keep in the bedroom. I paid around [$$] for it, and its worth every penny in my book.

I purchased three of these fans, and two made annoying clicking sounds right out of the box. Somewhere inside, the blades were contacting another piece of plastic. The third one I bought was fine for a few months before it too started making the same clicking sound, and worse, the motor would buzz for a few seconds every once in a while. If you use this fan in a noisy environment or have poor hearing, then get this fan. If you plan on using this in a bedroom or some other quiet spot, AVOID!... Or at least purchase it somewhere you can return it without having to ship it back.Poor quality control.1 Star!...

...and only 2 are still working. The other 2 simply died; one met its end rather suddenly and the other endured slow, ever-more creaking demise. Now I know nothing is perfect, but the "service" I received from Bionaire was so cavalier that I did not return the dead fans (they wanted me to jump through too many hoops) and simply decided to buy from them no more. Live and learn.

This fan looks great, works well, and is very quiet. The breeze feature auctually simulates a outdoor breeze and it save space. Since I have only used it in the fall weather, I don't know how powefull it will be in the dead of summer when the weather is extremely hot. In addition, since you can't adjust the height, you have to be within the height vacinity in order to fully appreciate the air flow. This is not a problem for me because I use it my living and I am usually sitting down which puts me within the height vacinity of the fan. Despite these drawbacks, I do like the way the fan works and I am satisfied with my purchase.

Submitted by jreyes4444 (not verified) on Mon, 2002-11-18 05:00.

I got this fan because my old fan was an eye sore in my newly decorated livingroom. The fan looks attractive, doesn't take much space, and circulates the air in my living room well. The breeze feature auctually simulates a outdoor breeze. If you close your eyes you could swear that you were outside experiencing a wift from a autumn breeze. The fan is considerible quiet and the remote is a dream, especially if your sitting in your livingroom, chilled out on the sofa, and it will take an act of god to get you up. On the down side, the quality of the fan base looks cheaps, but it provide sufficient support and has not broken on me. Since my apartment gets a little hot and stuffy (thanks to my landlord who gives too much heat) I use the fan to cool me down and cirlculate the air. However, I haven't used it in the dead of summer, and I am concerned that the fan will not provide enough air flow in a humid/hot climate. Although the fan works great now, I don't know how it will stack up against other fans such as Vornado and Holmes which provide powerfull air flow. I will have to test this in the summer and write a follow up review.Since you cannot adjust the height of the fan--unlike other oscilating fans--your body has to be within the height vacinity of the fan in order to fully appreciate the full air flow. For example, this fan works great in my livingroom because I am usually sitting down, and I am within the height vacinity of the fan. However, it doesn't work as well in my bedroom because I have an elevated bed that barely keeps me within the height vacinity of the fan. Although I do feel the breeze, it is not as powerfull as it in the living room or compared to my other oscillating fan, which is height adjustable. Finally, the price of the fan is too high and would be more respectable at $$$ . All in all, the fan is a great space saver, looks great, and supplies a cool and quiet breeze.

I bought a Bionaire BT40RC Tower Fan with Remote Control through Amazon.com on April 16, 2002. I wanted to have a reliable fan in our bedroom. This device, shoddily constructed in China, has made all kinds of unusual and disturbing noises that began within two months of purchase. It is a bulky, unwieldy device and last night the fan blades just stopped working even though the noisy motor was grinding away and rotating the device. I called the manufacturer and the so-called 5 year warranty is a joke--one has to send at one's own expense the bulky device back to them along with a check for $10. Since they don't repair these devices, it is junked and a new one is sent out. By the time I waste my time, repackage this device and get it to the post office and send it to a place plus paying for the postage of a replacement unit, I will have wasted more time and money than it is worth doing. Had I know that this device was shoddily made, noisy, unreliable and the company itself has so little confidence in the workmanship that they no longer even try to repair them when they break, I would never have bought one of these things. I urge future buyers to LOOK ELSEWHERE for a remote control fan!

Our first fan arrived broken. We returned it and waited for a new one which works fine, but the cheap plastic base is kind of wobbley. All in all we are satisfied with the breeze, the remote, the features, and it is nice and compact and quiet.

This is my second tower fan. The first fan i bought was from [another vendor], it seems to be the same fan, except the [other] fan has a built-in compartment for the remote... What a deal! We use this fan to help distribute the cool air from the A/C. The fan is quiet and with its tower design it doesn't get in the way. We had a regular fan and it was loud and always got in the way. The 3 speeds is satisfactory as is the oscillation feature. We rarely use the timer mode or the the breeze mode. The remote control is a nice feature too, but now i have 5 remotes on my table! It was easy to put together with a screwdriver. Everyone that sees this fan wants one... I would definitely recommend this product!

I purchased this fan for my bedroom to help circulate air conditioner air and it is DEFINATLY worth the price! It is EXTREMLY quiet! The breeze feature actually simulates a natural breeze and puts me right to sleep! The remote makes this so easy to use while in bed! And the slim sleek design makes it easy to put any where! Im going to get a second one for my living room!

This is a great fan for the bedroom, living room or anywhere you want a quiet fan. It is easy to assemble (compared to other such products I have bought), takes up very little space, looks good, and the remote control is a great convenience feature. It is also very quiet, which is why I use it in the bedroom. It is great to be able to turn the fan on and off or adjust the settings without getting up and going across the room. For use when sleeping, the timer feature lets you set the fan to turn off automatically, later in the night when it isn't needed.

This is one of those products that makes you wonder why someone else has not thought of it. Tall and sleek, this tower fan boasts a quiet but powerful motor. At high speed, you better not have any loose papers lying around. The oscillating feature works well and quietly, although the end to end angle is not as wide as most table top fans. The remote control works easily 20 feet away. It does require some assembly, but I could not recommend this fan any higher.

This fan has many plus sides to it. My first and favorite part is the remote control for it. You can control all the features of this fan from this small and light remote... only like an inch think and 4 or 5 inches long. The design is also a nice feature. It is tall but yet very skinny in width, making it work good for small rooms, yet it still has the ability to cool large rooms. Hardly any setup, just need to screw it a total of 8 screws. The 5 year warranty is also a really nice feature. The only negative side to this fan as far as I am concerned is the price... although you get what you pay for, it is definately worth the extra money for more features. enjoy.

This fan offers great air circulation and takes up very little floor space! It keeps the room quite comfortable for sleeping ( & breathing!). I use it in my bedroom to make it more comfortable when it is stuffy but not warm enough for the A/C, when it is the warmer season. When it is cool or cold outdoors I find I use it quite often, to keep the air circulating and more comfortable to counteract the drying gas heat. The remote control is great! I do not have to get out of bed to adjust the fan to my comfort. This is the second fan of this exact type I have purchased. I have the second one in the other bedroom. I also have the model without the remote control in my foyer, it keeps the bathroom (where there is no window) delightful! You cannot go wrong with this fan, for sure.

My high rating of this product is due to it's design, multi-function remote, and power of the air stream. The only thing preventing me from giving it a "5" is I would have really liked to see a speed adjustment for the oscillator. I don't think this is nit-picky considering all of the other features it has.
